One truth of gambling is that you can always find a betting system that someone will swear to, because it worked for them or someone they know. Another truth of gambling is that none of those betting systems work – not really. Finding a betting system for roulette that people say will win you money is easy. Finding one that will actually do it is impossible.

Roulette is a game of chance. There is no skill involved and you can’t influence the outcome of the spins. For that reason, it’s only logical to try to gain an advantage through other means. The most common way is through betting. People swear that certain betting systems will allow them to overcome the house edge and “beat the game.” None of them work.

The Martingale system is the best known betting system, where you double your bet after a loss. The thinking is that once you win, because you doubled after each loss, you will earn all of that lost money back. Unfortunately, that thinking doesn’t take losing streaks into account. Using the Martingale system, you can rapidly lose all of your bankroll before you got to win the money back. The casino also has maximum bet limits to thwart the system.

There are other systems, such as the D’Alembert system, where you increase your bet when you lose and increase it when you win, and the parlay system, where you bet all winnings on the next hand. Scientific experiments and mathematical models show that none of those betting systems are as good as flat betting, where you bet the same amount each time. There is no way to beat roulette and if there was, the casino would have found a way to stop it by now. Simply enjoy the game of chance and hope that you get lucky.
